Sharing Hope

Sharing Hope Class 2019

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. – Joel 2:32, Acts 2:21, and Romans 10:13

Ron and I met Michael on the street unloading boxes from the back of his car. A moving van was in a driveway just up the street. We approached with a smile and struck up a conversation. “We would like to welcome you to your new home. We are neighbors—from Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church.”

In Luke 9 Jesus sent out the twelve disciples in his authority and with his power. In Luke 10 he sent out seventy-two other disciples in pairs. They returned, praising God for all they had seen him do as they visited home after home sharing the Good News that “the Kingdom of God is near.”

Romans 10 was my morning devotional reading today. There is probably no passage of Scripture that elucidates the Good News about Jesus Christ being “the Way, the Truth, and the Life” as clearly: People try to get right with God by following godly rituals and doing godly things but the truth is, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised [Jesus] from the dead, [we] will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved…. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Michael had just arrived from Florida with his family. He expressed gratitude as we gave him a Spirit of Joy welcome packet and prayed, thanking God for his love for Michael, his wife and two boys, asking for a blessing for his new home and job, for his family and for new friends, and for God to be especially close to them during this time of transition. Paul & Grace Closius, just as necessary a part of the team, prayed from their car just down the street. After three other visits, we returned praising God for all we saw him do as His Spirit lead us.

OPPORTUNITY – SUNDAY SCHOOL STARTS THIS WEEK: The Sharing Hope Outreach is about offering the relationship we have with Jesus Christ to others, in a natural way. Our goal is to be a light for Jesus, whether that results in neighbors joining Spirit of Joy, or just drawing closer to the One who is our hope for eternity. Come join Paul and Grace Closius, Ron Whitener, and me as we meet at 10:00 am Sunday mornings and some Saturday mornings to share God’s love and hope in neighborhoods close to Spirit of Joy Lutheran church.

In Christ’s Love,

Eric Kindberg
